Prime Minister Ana Brnabić stated today that the Holocaust is a symbol of the downfall of the humanity, which is why it is important to talk about it because the horrors of the Holocaust must never be forgotten and repeated.
Speaking at a conference "The suffering of Serbs, Jews, Roma and others in the territory of the former Yugoslavia", and on the occasion of commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Brnabić underlined that today we remember all those who died in Auschwitz, Dachau, Jasenovac, at Sajmište and in many other concentration camps.
These places became a symbol of indescribable tragedy, horrendous, insane crimes which arouse pain, suffering, horror and shudder even today, almost eight decades later, the Prime Minister underlined and recalled that last year on this day she represented Serbia at a ceremony marking 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz.
For of all those who suffered, for their families, for us, for all future generations it is important to speak about this because the horrors of the Holocaust must not be forgotten and repeated, Brnabić stated.
We are here today again, as every year, to worship the shadows of a large number of victims, Serbs, Jews, Roma, anti-fascists, all those who suffered in the most cruel way although being innocent, because someone thought they had a wrong skin colour, name or surname, religion or way of life, and for their executioners they were only a number, she said.
The Prime Minister underlined that Serbia resolutely rejects any form of revision of history, relativisation of the crimes committed and any form of neo-Nazism, neo-fascism and hatred towards other nations and religions.
It is our duty, obligation and responsibility to fight clearly and loudly every time and every day against all types and relics of similar ideologies, today and in all subsequent years, she pointed out, adding that she is proud of the fact that Serbia cherishes and has always cherished an anti-fascist tradition.
She stated that today's conference also symbolises the fight against the evil, violence, injustice and fear which fascism gave birth to.
I want us all to be the voice of those who are no longer here and who gave their lives for our happier and better future, for the freedom we enjoy today. We must never allow silence to prevail and we must never forget, Brnabić stated.
